Vineyards in Toro
The Toro region is located in the “Duero Valley”, 220 km NW of Madrid. It’s a region characterized by poor soils and climate influenced by the altitude of the plateau where it’s located, with a mean of 700 m above the level sea. It’s a continental climate with Atlantic influence and arid character, with an average of rainfall around 400 mm per year and 2,800 hours of sunshine annually.
Our winery has 14 hectares of vineyards spread among some of the most prestigious areas related to the cultivation of the vine, as Bardales, La Portilla or Valderramiro. Our passion for the land makes all of them have their corresponding certification of organic farming.
They are vineyards with soils formed by Pliocene gravels and sands, with a thickness between one and four meters, under which is a clay base in which the vines get the water resources necessary for their survival.
Tinta de Toro variety, perfectly adapted to the climate and soil, gives us exceptional grapes of great concentration and potency at the moment of harvest, mainly due to the temperature variation present at the time of fruit maturity. This exceptional quality has its counterpart in low yields ranging between 2,000 to 4,000 kg per hectare.
